HH Sheikh Mohammed made these remarks during a visit to the IMG Worlds of Adventure, the world’s largest indoor theme park, which opened today in Dubai.

About City of Arabia

This mega-project, located on prime land on Mohammad bin Zayed Road was launched in 2005. Since 2008, it has been plagued with delays but construction has recommenced on-site.

The project consists of the following components:

  • IMG World of Adventures: a theme park destination which the developer claims will be the largest temperature controlled indoor entertainment destination in the world which is designed to attract 20,000 visitors a day. Currently the planned parks include Lost Valley, Cartoon Network and Marvel. This project is currently under-construction (as of Dec 2014).
  • Mall of Arabia: planned to be one of the largest malls in the world with over 1,000 retail outlets spread over an area of 4 million sq. ft. and having a car park that can accommodate more than 10,000 vehicles.
  • Wadi Walk: low-rise residential community built along a canal offering 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedroom apartments. Total no. of planned apartments are 1,600 units. The Wadi Walk also contains retail areas built along a promenade.
  • Elite Towers: this is a group of 34 towers which will be launched and delivered at different times. There are 4 sixty storey towers (commercial & hospitality), 20 forty-five storey towers (mixed use commercial and residential) and 10 thirty storey towers that are solely for residential use.

Project Updates

Dec 2014: The theme parks are definitely under-construction and the spine of a roller coaster is visible now from Mohammad bin Zayed Road. Delivery/opening dates cannot be independently confirmed.
